L.I.T 2019

If you say you don’t believe in miracles, then you haven’t seen the power of education in motion! At the beginning of 2019, 30 young people in Gauteng were bursting with talent and aspirations but had no means to fund their dreams. Enter LIT2019, a GIFS-powered skills development initiative in partnership with Constantia Insurance, that has quite literally changed their lives.

The Legends in Training (LIT201) programme worked alongside two Gauteng community radio stations, Kasie FM and Thetha FM, to identify and then select 15 enthusiastic, promising young people from Vosloorus and a further 15 from the Orange Farm area, for an accredited, one-year short-term insurance qualification.

“LIT2019 is yet another example of our commitment to channelling grassroots socio-economic upliftment through quality education,” explains GIFS CEO, Dr Kershen Pillay. “We are delighted to partner with Constantia Insurance on this life-changing programme. It is heart-warming to see how the initiative has already positively impacted on the lives of these talented young individuals in terms of their confidence and outlook on life, and we can’t wait to experience the impact they will make on the insurance industry once they graduate and enter the workplace.”

The participants are being put through their paces by subject specialists, learning the ins and outs of the short-term insurance industry as well as gaining insight on how to deal with workplace challenges presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“At Constantia, we care about the future of our country and the young minds that will lead us there. While this is an opportunity for the learners to change their lives, it will also benefit their communities and ultimately the country,” says Motseki Majake, General Manager of Life and Funeral at Constantia Insurance Company. “We’re delighted to be part of an inspiring programme that helps us deliver on our promise of making insurance personal, by helping these learners turn their career dreams into reality.”

With LIT2019 well on its way, plans are already in place for its successor, LIT2020!
