Jitters and questions: It’s a (virtual) date!

It was everything a great date should be: fun, exciting, informative, and interactive! Initial nervousness and jitters aside, participants in our IST Graduate Programme thoroughly enjoyed the speed dating networking session that saw them interact with six prominent industry leaders.

In true speed dating style, but with a delicious twist, the five groups of young tech experts – The Pioneers, The Concept Squad, The Adaptables, The Champions, and Innervation – were given just five minutes to enter the “green room” and interact with the delegates. Armed with just the delegates’ names and designations, and racing against the clock, they had to ask as many strategic questions as they could to get a better understanding of the delegates and tap into their expertise.  Not an easy task with the timer – and nerves – are at play!

The following STI experts enthusiastically took a seat at the table for the speed dating networking session:

  • Tshepiso Chocho: President of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) and Executive Manager of People Management at SASRIA.
  • Caroline Da Silva: Board Member at Santam and Retired Deputy Executive Officer Regulatory Policy at Financial Services Conduct Authority (FSCA).
  • Darryl Grater: Executive Councillor of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) and Executive Head of Discovery Insure Distribution Services.
  • Peter Olyott: CEO of Indwe Broker Holdings and President and Board Member of Financial Intermediaries Association (FIA).
  • Kopano Radebe: Executive Manager of Professional Development at The Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA).
  • Melisha Chetty: Committee Member at Gauteng Women In Insurance (GWII) and Head of PI Schemes, Directors and Officers and Medical Malpractice at Leppard Underwriting.

At the end of the speed dates, participants shared the info they managed to gather in their five minutes, and delegates voiced their thoughts, insights and advice.

For the IST fundis, the speed dating networking session was one of many memorable moments during their six-month IST Graduate Programme journey. Learn more about this ground-breaking programme here.
