How the B20 plans to bring transformative business change to Africa
One of our thought leadership objectives is to transcend financial services’ education and to cast our net of influence towards the production of sustainable business solutions for our continent. As a game changer, GIFS understands this is how the organisation will truly change lives, one learner at a time.
This year’s Future of Education: A 5-Day Global Exchange featured a conversation on how the G20 and, by extension, the B20, intend to deliver business change for Africa.
The B20 is the business arm of the G20 and is dedicated to dialogue and decision-making to fuel cooperation among member countries. The G20 presidency will transfer from South Africa to the US at the end of this year. GIFS’ G20 Dialogue was hosted by Nutun, in Johannesburg, on the fourth day of the Future of Education in May 2025.
Among the conversation participants was the B20 Co-Chair and the Co-Chair of Business Unity South Africa, Mr Mxolisi Mgojo. He weighed in on South Africa’s business potential, and the role and objectives of B20. American delegates were also in attendance and added they felt positive about South Africa’s role in acting as a bridge builder to Africa in trade opportunities.
Delegates shared how the innovation gap between the Global South and the Global North can be bridged to allow Africa to take a guiding role in fostering transformative and sustainable change. The views affirmed the positive tone of trade relations, especially between South Africa and the US. Coincidentally, the discussion took place in the wake of a bilateral meeting between US President Donald Trump and South Africa’s President and G20 President Cyril Ramaphosa.
