How business is encouraging trade relations between Africa and the US
Our commitment as GIFS is to change lives, one learner at a time. That mission extends far beyond the provision of quality financial services education. Our global footprint is growing and as a world class training provider, it’s our goal to foster trade relations so that we can improve the lives of our learners through education. We laid the topic bare during our Future of Education: A 5-Day Global Exchange in May 2025.
The third day of the event saw us hosting international and local VIPs for a roundtable discussion at the Johannesburg office of African specialty insurer, iTOO. Hosted by broadcaster Joanne Joseph, the discussion focused on building trade relations between Africa and the US.
The roundtable featured the Financial and International Business Association (FIBA) President and CEO David Schwartz and Wayne Shah, a board member and on the FIBA Executive Committee, cybersecurity expert from Florida Memorial University Chris Ford, as well as GIFS CEO Dr. Kershen Pillay.
GIFS’ expansion into the US has seen partnerships forged with various institutions, including Florida Memorial University. FIBA emerged as a bridge between the US and South Africa through the delivery of their market-leading Anti-Money Laundering Course in South Africa. Considering the emphasis on mechanisms to improve South Africa’s global greylisting status, delegates discussed the importance of business in adhering to good corporate governance.
The third day of the GIFS’ event saw the discussion pave way for a visit to the iconic Constitution Hill in Johannesburg. South Africa’s first female Deputy President and Global Goals 2030: Africa Scholarship patron Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and South Africa’s first Director of Public Prosecutions, Bulelani Ngcuka, welcomed the delegates.
