Anti-Money Laundering Course: A first for learners and a win for South Africa
As a global leader in financial services education, one of GIFS’ responsibilities is to enable business and contribute to fostering a culture of progress, compliance and adherence to the rule of law. Our decision to deliver the first-of-its-kind in South Africa, the Anti-Money Laundering Course, led to us being overwhelmed by interest from potential delegates. This affirmed the need for a course of this nature on our shores.
Looking back, it was earlier this year that the National Treasury announced that our country was making inroads in the plan for delisting from the Financial Action Task Force greylist. There are a few action items that need to be closed out before our greylisting status can be reconsidered.
GIFS is therefore proud to support all initiatives that will enable our delisting. The US-based Financial and International Business Association (FIBA) was brought in as a partner to deliver the Anti-Money Laundering Certification – a South African first to help industry leaders with the knowledge and tools to combat financial crime. And that’s how we began the first two days of our annual thought leadership summit. Held in May 2025, it was pegged under the banner The Future of Education: A 5-Day Global Exchange.
Despite overwhelming interest, we had to limit the two-day course to 25 delegates in Johannesburg to ensure there was the perfect ambiance for attention to detail. Wayne Shah, an a board member and on the FIBA Executive Committee, alongside David Schwartz, FIBA’s President and CEO, delivered the course.
Delegates walk away from the course with a global certification that allows them to strengthen compliance and mitigate risk, and they’ve gained global expertise.
As GIFS, we’re proud to have contributed to delivering to our delegates yet another world-class learning experience.
