Illuminating excellence: Meet the GIFS’ stars who shone at the 2025 Internal Awards

2025 was a year of global growth for GIFS as we expanded our brand to the US, UK and Canada, and were at the forefront of delivering the United Nations Development Programme-endorsed Global Goals 2030: Africa Scholarship. Empowering South Africans remained at the core of our purpose when we rolled out the Future of Education: A 5-Day Global Exchange that included former President Mr Kgalema Motlanthe and former Deputy President Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. So, how did we do it? It’s all thanks to a team of behind-the-scenes wonder workers who were honoured during the 2025 GIFS Internal Awards.

It’s important to acknowledge the contribution of each and every GIFSter as we’re blessed to be part of an organisation where people sign up to be part of a movement for change; change where we believe we can create a better Africa for others to inherit. That in itself is rewarding and while we salute all our GIFSters for their commitment, the following bright stars were singled out for their exemplary contribution to living our values in 2025.

CEO’s Choice Award

When it comes to being a game-changer, our CEO was spoilt for choice. However, after an extensive adjudication process, Katelyn Pillay was named the 2025 CEO’s Choice Award winner. Katelyn is one of our Relationship Managers and consistently lives our brand values as a GIFSter. They’re renowned for leading with integrity and heart. Join us in congratulating Katelyn on this monumental win.

People’s Choice Award

One of our most popular awards this year was the People’s Choice. GIFSters choose the winner by considering their congeniality, commitment and contribution to achieving GIFS’ goals. The unanimous name this year was Amelia September. Our Admissions and Certification Specialist has carved a reputation as a go-getter who considers the contributions of other team members while delivering excellence.

Fast Growth Award

GIFS’ Executive Committee had a tough time narrowing down the list of nominees for this prestigious category. The Fast Growth Award recognises GIFSters who demonstrate remarkable personal growth while being an absolute pleasure to work with.

This year, two exceptional individuals stood out: Reuben Ingram, Business Development Manager, and Gabrielle Govender, Relationship Manager. Both have shown outstanding development, unwavering commitment and a drive that inspires everyone around them.

Congratulations, Reuben and Gabrielle, on this phenomenal achievement. We can’t wait to see where your journey leads next!

Culture Award

When it comes to being a champion of GIFS’ can-do culture, the Executive Committee was unanimous in the choice of Waseema Masthan, one of our Auditors, as this year’s Culture Award winner. Known for their attention to detail, care for colleagues and, most importantly, contribution to empowering stakeholders, Waseema is a worthy winner in this hotly-contested category

Congratulations winners! You help GIFS soar to global heights and we’re grateful that your blood runs green.
